I've got some events coming up at this year's London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival but am sworn to secrecy until the programme comes out in February. Bah! I'll tell all then but, for now, here are some of the things I've done...
The Fat of the Land: A Queer Chub Harvest Festival which Naz, Charlotte Cooper, Bill Savage and I put together was a big, fat success. Have a look at the blog for photos from the day.
In 2009, I began work as a programmer at The London Lesbian and Gay FIlm Festival.
I was responsible for two events - a screening for LGBT families followed by a party called My First Gay Disco and a programme of fat queer films called The Invasion of the Chubsters.
Both were hits! So many families and kids came to the screening and party that we're planning something much bigger for next year's festival. The Invasion of the Chubsters, a collaboration wtih The Chubster Gang was such a beautiful event.
Here are Christa Holka's terrific photos of my intiation into the Chubsters by The Beefer and Butch Husky and Ingo's video of Chopin Gard channelling the spirit of Mama Cass to bring the event to a close.
Transfabulous has been a big part of my life for the last five years. Serge Nicholson and I started with a bang - the UK's first FtM Full Monty peformance at our inaugural party, A Night of Tall Women and Short Men.
In all we produced three arts festivals, numerous parties, acoustic music and spoken word salons, community picnics, the Trans with Pride conference, the London marking of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, two grand gala balls, dancing lessons...there's an archive on the Transfabulous website if you'd like to know more.
Years ago, when I went by the name of Jewels Barker, I ran drag kings clubs - Naive, Knave, Geezer etc. I've got loads of photographs and stories to tell about that time but it all needs more space and time than I can give it right now. I'll come back to that at some point.
