Jason Elvis

jason on stage

I have always been a show off. I originally started performing when I hosted Naive, the London Drag King club in 1995, doing stand up routines at Duckie and a quite bizarre performance which involved putting little faces and wigs on my breasts for the Transgender tent at Pride that year.

I then took up the guitar and joined bands. I started to write about them but then realised they need a page of their own - watch this space!.

It wasn't until 2006 when Serge and I started Transfabulous that I took up stand up again. I am currently performing in There is No Word For It - the (Trans) Mangina Monologues

pictures from the menstrual cycle performance

The Menstrual Cycle is my most recent piece, performed initially at the Transfabulous Festival 2008 and then at Stockholm in a Wotever show as part of Europride. It's about 15 minutes long and I wear a terrific uterus costume, designed and made by Lucas McKenna.

This is a clip from Mike Wyeld's documentary feature - The Lovers and Fighters Conventionin which I perform a piece called Using Mens' Changing Rooms When You Don't Have A Penis which I wrote especially for the film.

Also in the film are Jet Moon, Josephine Wilson, Tom O'Tottenham, Dr Jane and Ingo. The gang originally came together for a show called The Genderqueer Playhouse which Josephine Wilson produced for Transfabulous 2007.

doing the moob act

I revisted the breasts-wearing-little-wigs thing that I'd done in 1995 with a piece about moobs for the Genderqueer Playhouse. I also performed this at the Queer Beograd festival in Serbia in 2007.

Some of my favourite times performing have been more improvised and spontaneous. I was the MC for the Tee He-She Comedy night and ended up being crowd-pressured into doing Naked Robotic Yoga. I believe there is some camera phone video out there somewhere..! I have also done short skits about my Mum's cooking, transness in general and the village where I grew up.

I have a fancy for putting all the things I've done together, into one big show of about an hour. Maybe I will!

And I did just that! My first solo show went really well. I've not done stuff since because of college but am always open to offers!
